I don't have any magic bullet.  If you have the time to spend with your child and your relationship can handle a little stress, chances are that you, working with special services at your school, can accomplish what a tutor can do.  I am happy to meet with parents on a one-time basis to guide their own support for their children (and check out Helpful Items).  However, as children become teenagers, it can be harder and harder for a parent to nudge without nagging.  Sometimes guiding study skills and homework isn't the best use of your energy.  Furthermore, some students (especially teens) find it easier to take suggestions from non-family members.   Sometimes, an outside expert can help students more effectively develop new habits (and keep good ones), develop new skills and put multiple talents together.

Some students need counseling that I'm not qualified to offer.  If your child wants to do better, I can help. If your child accepts that school is a necessary inconvenience, I can usually work with those students.  If your child doesn't want to be in school right now, I'm not a great resource.
